The Nike N7 2022 Collection Weaves Basketball and Native America
Nike’s N7 line has officially operated since 2009 to highlight America’s deeply rooted Indigenous history through inspired products and aesthetics. Actually, the initiative dates back to 2007 and, 15 years later, shows no sign of slowing down. 2022’s collection explores how basketball has transcended cultural and geographical lines, heading all the way north of the nation.
The collection includes the Kyrie 5 Low, dressed in shades of tan and accented with green and orange. According to Nike, this is a ‘nod to traditional ribbon skirts and weaving techniques, recognising the craftsmanship and detailing by Indigenous women’.

This woven aspect is made clear in the Free Crater Trail Moc from the collection, which is one of Nike’s more traditional looking designs. Adopting the age-old technique of woven strips, the effect creates a moccasin toed upper that is then attached to a more modern Nike Free sole.
This element is also accentuated on an Air Max 95, whereby its horizontal and vertical running stripes on the upper perfectly represent the concept. It too adopts the same colour scheme as the rest of the collection.
The Nike N7 collection will release on June 21 in the US and Canada alongside matching apparel. Concurrently, the brand has donated $625,000 towards Native American and Indigenous causes.
