Dior Beauty Releases an Anime-Inspired Film in Honor of “Miss Dior”
In honor of “Miss Dior,” the fragrance that helped define the house of Dior, the brand has partnered with French animation studio Remembers on an anime-inspired short film starring the scent as its own animated heroine. Directed by Remembers co-founder Ugo Bienvenu, the project marks the first time “Miss Dior” has been reimagined in this format, drawing on a hand-painted visual style reminiscent of classic Japanese animation.
“We had complete creative freedom in terms of the art direction,” Bienvenu tells Hypebae. “To portray the gentle beauty of living nature, we chose a rarely used technique for the background design of this film. It is a Japanese artisanal gouache technique that dates back to the 1980s — hardly anyone uses it anymore, because it demands an immense amount of time. Louise Seynhaeve, who created all of the backgrounds for ‘Miss Dior,’ must be the only person in France to master this technique.”
The finished film leans into that duality, following the lead as she darts through Parisian streets and drifts over the city on balloons, guided by a playful bee past Christian Dior’s roses, silhouettes of his sister Catherine and the gardens of Château de La Colle Noire. Signature codes like a giant pink bow and houndstooth print also appear throughout, tying the perfume’s past to its animated present.
