Apple Music’s Africa Now Radio With LootLove This Friday with Victony
Nigerian rapper and singer-songwriter Victony joins LootLove via FaceTime on Apple Music 1 to talk about his latest track, “Kolomental.” He also discusses his new EP, ‘Outlaw,’ his recovery from the tragic car accident that reshaped his priorities, and the impact of his collab with Mayorkun, “Holy Father.”

Victony on the progress of his recovery
I’ve made a lot of progress. I’ve been doing physio for a year now and pretty much last week I had a set of like, a final surgery – I took out screws from my leg, I’ve got a cast on my leg but it’s pretty much no problem. I’m just hanging in there, doing physiotherapy and recovering, but mentally everything is good.
Victony on the impact of ‘Holy Father’ on his career
It’s quite obvious! It’s like the biggest thing for me. I was in Ghana a few weeks back, and on the streets people just walked up to me randomly saying ‘Holy Father,’ and that kind of explains what it did for me because it introduced me to a new audience totally. I see people my mum’s age, they walk up to me and they’re like they really love the song. Those are encounters I barely had before the song, so it did everything for me and I’m really grateful for the collaboration.
Victony on the challenges of completing his debut EP
Apart from the physical challenge, having to move from my house to the studio, I kind of felt guilty seeing everyone pause their lives for me. My siblings, they obviously had work to do, had one thing or the other to do, but they were just really trying to be there for me and just make sure that I’m really in a better place mentally, so that I’ll say was the only challenge I’d faced.
The whole process of actually recording – being in the studio, creating – it became more interesting because guess what, I had more stuff to talk about, right? I’d just been through a near-death experience, so it’s kind of broadened my mind and made my writing process more interesting.
Tune in to Africa Now Radio with LootLove this Friday, May 6th at 9am Lagos/London / 10am Johannesburg/Paris / 1a LA / 4a NYC on Apple Music 1
