New Balance and The Basement Ready “Earth Brown” 2002R
Influential London-based blog and online community The Basement got the sneaker interwebs humming when news of their collaborative efforts with New Balance broke back in 2021. Images of their green and grey takes on the 2002R were revealed, and although the fate of both of those colourways is still unknown we now have the first official piece of news regarding the partnership between The Basement and NB – namely that they’ll be kicking things off with an ‘Earth Brown’ iteration of the 2002R.
Designed to tackle a rainy London day in style, the ‘Earth Brown’ lives up to its name with a tonal blend of brown and taupe hues that are accented by black toe caps, tongues and heel counters. It’s made of heavyweight waterproof suede and textured rubber, and also features hi-vis reflective hits on its forefoot and heel overlays. The Basement’s array of logos are spread around the tongues, lace tips and insoles, but their most clever application arrives on the midfoot’s N logo, which is subtly debossed with their ‘9 Bar’ graphic. All-black midsoles with an N-Ergy cushioning setup round off the look.
Though this is the first official colab between The Basement and New Balance, it’s far from The Basement’s first effort on a sneaker. In the past, they’ve teamed with Nike twice – reworking the Dunk Low and serving up a set of Air Max 90s inspired by London, Manchester and Glasgow.
If you’re looking to get your hands on a pair of The Basement and New Balance’s 2002R ‘Earth Brown’ colab, you’ll be able to do so come April 24 at 3 PM BST. The release is exclusive to members of The Basement’s Facebook group, so click here to request membership and get a shot at securing a pair.
