New Balance Pays Tribute to Flimby to Mark 40th Anniversary of Made in U.K.
New Balance may have been founded and manufactured in America, but they have a rich history in the United Kingdom, whereby the local shoemaking industry in Flimby, Cumbria was revitalised thanks to the brand’s international expansion. That adventure began 40 years ago, which NB are commemorating with the new ‘Flimby Celebration Pack’ that contains some new and old classics from the Made in UK collection.

Consisting of the 1500, 991, 773, 670, and 920, this collection exemplifies the quality construction coming out of NB’s Flimby factory through period colourways, accurate details and a human touch not replicable by machine. The 1500 – a model frequently scrutinised by eagle eyed sneakerheads – is tweaked yet again to be even closer to the original, with the additional vintage yellowing on the midsole making it harder than ever to discern from the first run. Meanwhile, the 991, which has enjoyed an extended anniversary and collaborative resurgence, gets a nice grey-brown colourway reminiscent of the recent DSM drop. The 773 and 670 return in a bid to be rightfully revered by more than old-school runners and NB nerds with their suede, mesh and nylon combos and sharp silhouettes. Finally, the 920 continues to wave the flag as the incumbent flagship of Flimby manufacturing.

The New Balance ‘Flimby Celebration Pack’ will be available from May 5.
