Navigate the atmos x ASICS GEL-Lyte III ‘NYC Subway’ Release
Japan’s atmos have steadily broken into US soil over the past couple of years, and they’re literally mapping out their success so far with a new ASICS GEL-Lyte III collaboration aptly named the ‘NYC Subway’. One of the world’s most frequented transit systems is honoured in sneaker form by having the maps printed right onto the leather uppers.
This release is a spiritual continuation of the ‘World Map’ GL3 that atmos created back in 2018, but localised to New York City, which various cues make clear. For one, the city’s initials are embroidered into the tongue of one shoe, which the other foot displays a red apple in reference to its ‘Big Apple’ nickname. Elsewhere, the entire NYC subway system is printed onto the all-leather upper and is somewhat legible in various orientations. Thanks to the various bodies of water running throughout, there is a generous splash of blue throughout. This all sits atop the model’s GEL-cushioned sole.
The atmos x ASICS GEL-Lyte III ‘NYC Subway’ will release exclusively at atmos USA and Japan on April 9. A yet-to-be revealed ‘TYO Subway’ companion colourway is slated to drop a fortnight later, which will be revealed in due time.
