Joshua Vides’ Signature Monochromatic Lines Rework Converse Staples
Joshua Vides is known for his signature graphic monochromatic artwork and has previously applied this to everything from a BMW E30 M3 to skateboards and a Fendi capsule, but now the LA-based artist partners up with Converse once more for a three-piece collaboration.

Vides previously worked with Converse alongside the now-rebranded MA®KET and did another capsule alongside MCA Chicago, which means this time around it’s the artist’s first-ever solo collaboration with the legendary footwear giant. As expected, shades of white and black dominate across all three pairs — namely the Chuck Taylor All Star ‘70 Hi, Weapon CX Hi, and Pro Leather Ox — but more has been applied to all three than just a special colorway and graphic technique.

For example, the Chuck’s signature canvas upper appears in black with white dots all over it but this has been covered in a white zippable shield, which when done up acts as the exterior structure of the shoe. Here, Converse’s roundel can be found alongside a pebbled leather tongue, a set of dots on the toe cap, and a traffic cone logo on the sidewall.

Vides’ Weapon CX Hi is arguably the best of the trio, sporting a “Black/Clear/Rutabaga” colorway that finds a canvas upper cut away and filled in with plastic inlays wearing the artist’s take on the Converse chevron logo. Rounding out the pack is of course the Pro Leather Ox, which combines “Natural Ivory” canvas side panels with black leather on the toe and heel, coming together for something more closely associated with Vides’ typical style. As a result, eyelets are outlined, as is all the piping, branding, and stitched elements. Completing all three pairs is the dual-branded and double-length tongue that combines Converse’s moniker with the artist’s signature.
