Converse Create Next CX Weapon

Converse has reimagined its classic Weapon to create the Weapon CX, a lifestyle sneaker with plenty of heritage basketball flair. Originally released in 1986 and endorsed by NBA Hall of Famers Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, the original Weapon even transcended hoops culture to become a favorite of Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose. Now, the Weapon CX hopes to carry that legacy on by using modern design cues and material.

Debuting in a classic black and white colorway, the Weapon CX’s leather upper retains many of its predecessor’s signature details like Converse’s Chevron branding and a Y-Bar overlay towards the heel. Down below is where it’s remixed, thanks to an extra-thick midsole made of Converse’s proprietary CX foam. Apart from its tech, this midsole features an exaggerated shape in the manner of the recent Rick Owens x Converse TURBOWPN for a nod to high-end designer footwear. A unique rubber outsole that wraps up into the midsole completes the look.

The Converse Weapon CX will release in both the black/white colorway pictured above and a white/cream style come September 2. Each will be available via the Converse webstore and is priced at R2 299.95.
