Aleali May’s Jordan Brand “Fortune” Collection is a Love Letter to Her Family’s Filipina and Black Heritage

Aleali May and Jordan Brand have joined forces once again to rework another Air Jordan silhouette. This time around, the duo has given the Air Jordan 14 Low a new look, which pays tribute to the talent’s Filipino and Black heritage.

In celebration of the upcoming release, May shared through a campaign video the inspiration behind her latest design. “Throughout my collaborations, I always try to go back and say thank you to whoever was supporting me at the time,” May shared with Jordan Brand in an interview. “My grandmother on my dad’s side gifted me gold and jade bangles that she’d had for 20 years before that. As a young girl, my grandmother on my mom’s side also gifted me her jade bangles. Those were my first pieces of jewelry.”

The sneaker‘s main design element is jade, which holds sentimental value to May. The midsoles boast a marbled green accent similar to the stone and are paired with a light beige upper for a minimal look. In addition, a range of apparel is set to launch alongside the AJ14 Low. The garments include biker-style zip-up shirts, a black tee with retro Jordan branding, tank tops and shorts influenced by May’s connection with the motorbike culture in Los Angeles and Manila.

“We’d often see images of MJ getting out of a sports car, so for the campaign, I wanted to be getting off of a bike,” May said. “Jordan Brand has a motorsports history, and I wanted to see what that would look like today from a woman’s perspective.”

Aleali May’s “Fortune” collection will be available on August 19 via Nike SNKRS.
