For Y-3, Even Running Can be an Avant-Garde Exercise
Yohji Yamamoto and adidas ‘ Y-3 label has explored subcultures and trends far and wide —Now, the avant-garde sportswear institution follows up on the previously seen brushstroke-equipped Y-3 UltraBOOST LIGHT with the full, comprehensive performance running collection.
For Yohji, the expansion into something specifically focused on running makes total sense: “The sports world and its technology seek for necessity, practicality, or functionality while fashion is seeking the opposite… Y-3 is a strong examination of the blend of sport and style and the tension caused by mixing tradition with all that is modern.”
With this, Y-3 applies its signature understated and garment-focused black-and-white aesthetic to performance footwear, apparel, and accessories, which have all be reimagined within the designer’s avant-garde lens. For example, running leggings are tight and detailed with 3M stripes — which is to be expected — however classics like the UltraBOOST LIGHT, and accompanying BOSTON 11, TAKUMI SEN 9, and RUNNER 4D FWD are all also treated to brushstroke Three Stripes and Yohji Yamamoto signatures.

Full running ensembles complete the collection, with tops and shorts rounding the looks off. Check out the full collection above, and pick it up from May 12 at Y-3, on CONFIRMED, in-store, and through select retailers globally.
