PUMA Drops 50th-Anniversary Clyde in Three Retro Suede Colorways
PUMA’s monumental Clyde sneaker turns 50 this year, and to celebrate, the German sportswear label has redone the signature silhouette in three retro suede colorways.

The shoe first emerged in the ’70s, thanks to basketball player Walt “Clyde” Frazier, who made a name for himself with a signature off-the-court style that was almost as impressive as his on-the-court moves. When Clyde approached PUMA for a custom pair of Suedes, the brand rearranged the original shoe’s construction with a lighter and wider shape, stamped the athlete’s name on its side and called it the official Clyde sneaker. Today, the silhouette has stood the test of time as a signature shape among fashion and sports alike.

PUMA’s latest Clyde iterations come in blue, red and green tones. The shape remains true to its roots, with a full suede upper, gold-foiled and debossed PUMA branding and a suede tongue donning a woven label. The brand’s signature animal motif appears front and center, while classic “Clyde” lettering reflects in gold, too.

The Clyde OG retails for R 2199 and is available for purchase on PUMA.com, PUMA Retail stores, Al Capone, Archive and Shelflife. Take a look at the vintage-inspired silhouette in the gallery above.
