Daily Paper and Ajax Explore East African Beadwork for New Pre-Match Collection
Football and fashion’s relationship is continuing to thrive. Recently, we’ve seen some of the top sides in European football present kits that are designed to be worn outside of the 90 minutes. For example, Arsenal’s recently-released Notting Hill Carnival-inspired pre-match jersey tapped into Jamaican culture with a colorway that represented the national flag. Now, Ajax is extending its connection with Amsterdam-based label Daily Paper for a new pre-match kit that celebrates Amsterdam’s diverse and inclusive population.
Following up on the Daily Paper x Ajax third kit that was released in August, this new pre-match strip uses East African beadwork as its main line of design inspiration. By using hues of red, black, and green across the new jersey, warm top, anthem jacket, track jacket, pants, and hooded sweatshirt, each design reflects the roots of Daily Paper and the many Ajax players and fans that were raised in the multi-cultural backgrounds of the Netherlands.
The collection highlight is the crewneck jersey that features Pan-African colors, representing the blood that unites all people of color, forgotten ancestors, and the fertility of growth. Rounding off the kit design, white details are used around the Ajax crest — with Daily Paper branding just below — and the main sponsors.
