BLACKPINK & ADIDAS HAVE A NEW COLLABORATION IN THE WORKS
K-pop fans are buzzing over the news that BLACKPINK has another adidas collaboration up its sleeve.
The duo’s relationship dates back to 2020, when all four members of the wildly popular ensemble appeared alongside Yara Shahidi, Ninja, and Pharrell Williams in the sneaker giant’s “Change Is a Team Sport” campaign. The following year, BLACKPINK fronted a second adidas campaign, “Watch Us Move,” and an accompanying collection of activewear.
Interestingly, both collabs rustled the feathers of BLACKPINK’s fandom, known as BLINKs, who took issue with Jisoo’s absence from some of adidas’ online and in-store promotional material (Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé were all present). Taking to social media, the group’s dedicated fandom quickly created the hashtags #AdidasTreatJisooBetter and #AdidasApologizetoJisoo.
As adidas plans its still “unspecified” project with BLACKPINK, BLINKs are reminding adidas that they won’t take Jisoo erasure lightly. A recent post on adidas Originals’ Instagram is home to several comments asking the brand to “respect” the singer.
Fan-fueled drama aside, adidas x BLACKPINK is a major win for both parties, bolstering the former’s global brand power in music and the latter’s in sports.
A representative for adidas did not immediately respond to our request for comment, but if the brand’s past BLACKPINK team-ups are any indication of what’s to come, we can expect a campaign at the very least. Here’s hoping we get an apparel and footwear collection, too.
