The 2022 Nike Puerto Rico Collection Has Been Revealed
Every year on the second Sunday in June, the National Puerto Rican Day Parade is held in New York, honouring the city’s strong Puerto Rican community and their rich history. Nike has made a point to decorate the festival every year with a sneaker that adorns the Puerto Rican flag or other culturally significant aspects. It actually started in 2000 with the Air Force 1 and ever since there have been a slew of themed renditions spanning models such as the Air Trainer 1 and Air Max 97. Despite the controversy that occurred two years ago, Team Swoosh are back in 2022 with another Puerto Rico collection housing two Air Force 1s and apparel.
This collection has been inspired by the Boricua community and pulls its palette from from the colourful city of San Juan, its hand painted signs and also the famous bodegas of NYC. The highlight of the pack is the colourful AF-1, boasting an all-over suede build with extra perforations on the toe box and mid-foot. The second is slightly more toned down with similar materials, it has a white upper and midsole with blue Swoosh and heel tab. They both have special branding on the rear and insole.
Nike’s 2022 Puerto Rican collection has been primed and readied to hit shelves! The Air Force 1s are releasing on June while the apparel will drop on June 9 on SNKRS and at select retailers in the US and Puerto Rico.
