adidas hosts Rich Mnisi’s friends to celebrate the launch of his Homeland Collection
On Thursday 24th February, adidas brought Rich Mnisi’s close friends and family together to celebrate the highly anticipated adidas x Rich Mnisi Homeland collection at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town. The exclusive launch event was attended by Rich Mnisi’s friends and brand partners including the likes of Zozibini Tunzi, Shudufhadzo Musida, Sarah Langa, and Maps Maponyane.
Leading up to the evening, some of Rich’s close friends and adidas partners were invited to a private villa where they were styled and glammed up by artists Amy Zama, Vuvu Maseti and Justine Alexander. As guests arrived at the venue, they were welcomed with canapes and cocktails, and had the opportunity to interact with the gallery display of the collection. Guests were then escorted to the atrium of the museum which was lit up in the hero colours and patterns of the collection and were treated to a 5-course dinner inspired by Rich’s Tsonga heritage.
Singer and songwriter Langa Mavuso gave a heartfelt live performance, while electronic music producer and DJ Gina Jeanz kept everyone on their feet with her playlist. Rich Mnisi’s partners came on board to make the event even more special, with BMW transporting guests throughout their stay, and Johnnie Walker sponsoring the after party.
“Each RICH MNISI collection pays homage to my family, celebrating my culture and heritage and this collection is no different. I’m honored with the amount of love and support I’ve received from South Africans, my friends and family. The world is seeing us for what we are – TALENTED! This will only give more South Africans a seat at the table, and I’m incredibly proud of what adidas and the Rich Mnisi brand have brought to life”, said Rich.
Kate Woods, Senior brand director at adidas SA added, “We are so proud to have partnered with such a young and influential powerhouse. This is truly an iconic moment not only for adidas but for the South African fashion industry. A true South African story that celebrates culture and heritage through fashion, while considering the environment with pieces from the collection made in part with recycled materials and Parley Ocean Plastic to help fight plastic waste”.
In a first for adidas South Africa, a 3D projected billboard was produced on Melrose Arch featuring Tamara Moeng showcasing the collection
The adidas x Rich Mnisi collection is available at adidas.co.za and adidas stores, with prices ranging from R379 to R3599.
