The Willy Chavarria x adidas Originals SS25 Collection Is Unapologetically Chicano
Willy Chavarria and adidas Originals have unveiled a striking campaign to accompany the debut of their collaborative SS25 collection. Shot by LA-based photographer Carlos Jaramillo and featuring Candace Parker, Skyy Clark, and Alejandro Speitzer, the campaign showcases the blend of Chavarria and adidas’s design language while honoring the Chicano heritage of South Central LA.
Comprising two product drops in May and July, the ready-to-wear and footwear range is characterized by Chavarria’s oversized silhouettes, classic iconography, and Mexican symbolism. Black athletic sets feature adidas’s signature stripes and trefoil in the designer’s signature red hue, as well as rose embroideries often found throughout his collections. In footwear, adidas reprises the 1978-born Jabbar basketball shoe in the Chavarria Jabbar Low and Chavarria Jabbar Dress.
Standing out in apparel is a baggy white sweatshirt with red and green panels inspired by the Mexican flag and prominent adidas and Willy Chavarria wordmarks on the back. On the front side of the sweatshirt, “Chicano” appears in Chavarria’s Old English font, and the traditional Aztec eagle found on the flag is placed front and center.
In a statement shared by adidas, Chavarria said “adidas’ place in Chicano culture is a bit of an untold story.” “I love sharing this iconic brand in a way that reflects how I wore it growing up and how we wear it now. Working with my close friends and extended family on this project in LA was a powerful and personal experience. It allowed me to capture the beauty of our Brown brothers and sisters against the backdrop that is home to so many of us,” he continued.
The Willy Chavarria x adidas Originals SS25 collection will be released in select adidas stores, the adidas CONFIRMED app, as well as at the Willy Chavarria and adidas web stores. The first drop is slated for May 8 and the second drop will follow on July 10.
