Official Look at adidas Originals x Bad Bunny & Lionel Messi Gazelle and F50 Cleat
adidas Originals has officially announced Bad Bunny and Lionel Messi‘s joint collaboration in two new silhouettes. As previously rumored, the collaboration features an indoor Gazelle and an F50 cleat, which both draw inspiration from the Puerto Rican rapper and the Argentinian football star’s cross-cultural communities.
According to adidas, the collaboration grew organically from the mutual respect shared by the two adidas ambassadors. “This campaign celebrates our fans,” Messi said in a statement. “Music is connected to many aspects of my life, and Bad Bunny is an artist who is never missing from my playlist,” he continued. Bad Bunny, whose handwritten signature appears as “Benito” on the pair, said “I compare the love he feels for his country and his sport to the love I feel for music and Puerto Rico,” on his respect for Messi. In the spirit of the boundary-breaking collaboration, which brings the energetic worlds of music and sports together, the final result is a dynamic duo comprising both a classic silhouette and a field-ready cleat.
Adidas design director Rafael Mayorga shared that the duo ventured into adidas’s archives together and were inspired by the character of the brand’s classic models. The Bad Bunny & Messi Gazelle is made in a natural-toned aniline leather that gains its own unique patina with long-time wear, while X-shaped stripes on the heel are a subtle reference to Messi’s number 10 jersey. The Bad Bunny & Messi F50 adopts the same color scheme as the Gazelle, with accents of blue as a nod to the Argentinian flag. Every detail of the pairs are considered from the retro rubber soles of the Gazelle to the iridescent outsoles of the F50.
The Bad Bunny & Messi F50 is available via adidas.co.za and adidas flagship stores.
