‘Bridgerton’ S3: “Polin’s” Sex Scene Chemistry Is Unreal

Season 3 of the hit Netflix series, Bridgerton, releases May 16 and per usual, the sex scenes are all anyone can talk about — oh and “Polin.”

If you’re new here, Penelope Featherington (played by Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton) are the next couple of the ‘ton. And fans of the show already have a stan name: “Polin.”

“We had to kind of hold back on the chemistry for the first two seasons,” Coughlan told E News. And then it was like when we were ready to unleash it, we were like, ‘Here you go!’”

Since its 2020 release, Bridgerton has dominated sex scene discussions. According to Jaimee Bell, erotic story writer and producer at Bloom Stories, the show has mastered three important elements of sex scenes. “The buildup, tease” and most importantly, “centering female pleasure.”

Impressively, Coughlan reveals that chemistry came naturally. ”Luke and I had a real hand in what we did and how it came across,” she shared. “We decided what we wanted to show and how we wanted to choreograph the scenes. We had agency and we could let it flow. Thankfully, we had that physical comfort with one another – so it ended up being a really beautiful thing.”

Newton, who plays Colin chimed in: “It was natural. We didn’t have to do anything to like ignite that. It was kind of like these characters had got there over a long period of time — they talk of Colin and Pen as the slow burn romance — but really when we got there…”

According to Coughlan, the pair is in their own friends-to-on-screen-lovers pipeline as they’ve been dance partners and now, do the deed on camera. “We’ve actually been dance partners for five years,” Coughlan told E! News. “So we had a certain physical comfort level with each other which helps immensely.”

Oh and as for that rumor that they broke furniture while filming a sex scene, Coughlan replied: “Yeah, hell yeah we did.”
