Gucci Steps Into a New Era, Looking Beyond Tomorrow for FW23
Gucci just took to Milan Fashion Week to reveal its Fall/Winter 2023 collection, and although the House has officially welcomed Sabato De Sarno as its new creative director, Gucci’s design team took the reigns on this one ahead of his debut in September. Marking the second collection after the departure of Alessandro Michele, the delivery was a dystopian homage to the brand’s outlook moving forward.
Gucci welcomed its audience into its local headquarters in Milan, lined with fuzzy carpet in its trademark green hue. The circular venue was surrounded by functional elevators that acted as doors for runway models. They swiftly made their way around the space after lights flickered in dysfunction, signaling showtime was upon us.
The Gucci design team took its FW23 showcase as a moment of reflection while looking toward the future that marks a new era for the Italian label. Historical cues from past Gucci collections were recalled throughout the range, observed through a modern lens that signifies the crew’s creative process. The first look to hit the stage arrived uncovered, only sporting a bedazzled bralette with Gucci’s interlocking emblem, a silk maxi skirt, and leather gloves with frosted tips.

Relaxed suiting made for futuristic soldiers was accompanied by slashed trousers and tinted visor sunglasses, while faux fur ensembles were a seasonal focal point and landed in discolored purple, blue, green, and pink tones. Raindrop-shaped decorations graced formal attire with diamond ornamentation that shined bright under the spotlight, working alongside casual trench coats, stripped shirting, and baggy jeans. Fringed silver coats swung back and forth slated for the dancefloor, while jumbo-sized shoulder fillings elevated ceremonial outerwear to new heights.
Leather co-ords were matched with staple mock neck tops and textured chain bags, followed by rhinestone-encrusted mesh dresses that allowed a sneak peek into the human form. Gucci’s Jackie bag was previewed with a worn-out effect alongside kitten heels with shaggy footbeds, ski-ready boots, and an all-new basketball sneaker in white leather.
