New Balance 550 Receives the “Marquette” Treatment
New Balance continues to bring its string of releases of its ever-popular low-top silhouette. The New Balance 550 is arriving in a “Marquette” colorway, appealing to the vintage aesthetic first incurred with the initial release of the shoe in 1989.
Since the revival of the silhouette in 2020, the 550s have become a staple in the sneaker rotation. The newest colorway takes inspiration from Aimé Leon Dore‘s iterations, focusing on using color to contrast the details. The “Marquette” colorway arrives in white, perforated based on the upper, with tints of blue and yewllo around the heel to evoke the Marquette University team colors. Wine-like burgundy red and sky blue are used to highlight the color and outsole respectively. The mix-and-match of the colors give the shoe a vintage varsity aesthetic.
Look out for the pair coming later this year in select retailers and online at New Balance.
