Dior’s Winter 2022 Runway Collection Is Now Available
Kim Jones‘ Dior, with Lucy Beeden and Thibo Denis in tow, took to Paris Fashion Week earlier this year to showcase a masterclass in school-boyish wit and cozy sophistication for its Winter 2022 runway show. With a Birkenstock collaboration, formal loungewear, informal suits, hats by Stephen Jones Millinery and more all coming together for one of Jones’ finest collections to date, the Winter collection is one that paid homage to Christian Dior’s heritage, looking to classic design staples (particularly in womenswear) for inspiration. Now, that collection has finally launched online and in-store.
Leading the seasonal drop is Dior’s embroidered Cannage coat, a play on the emblematic Lady Dior bag that’s renowned for its glossy black leather multi-dimensional embroidered, textural design. Here, the quilts conform to the shapes of a car coat and a blouson, with both outerwear staples sporting a spread collar, rotating “CD” clasps, and a full lamb leather construction.
House heritage is echoed in the Bar Blouson Black Aged-Effect Calfskin jacket, with its silhouette performing a nip and tuck on the waist in a way that harks back to the sophisticated shapes of Christian Dior’s past. Atelier tailoring is exercised with the draped-tie jacket, a piece that billows from the waist with ruffles and ruching to add a textural finish to something otherwise traditional, simultaneously ushering in a softer side to the collection.
This continues with poplin boxer shorts (the ones that were styled on the runway to be visibly exposed), while a silk shirt covered in the CD Étoile print looks back to Mr. Dior’s archive. Likewise, his fondness for florals infiltrates the Spring Ball sweater – an “Ecru” piece embroidered with a bouquet of wildflowers – as well as new takes on the Dior Saddle bag and more.
