This Nike Dunk Low Is Giving ‘Shattered Backboard’ Vibes

July has been a bountiful month for fans of Nike’s ever-popular Dunk Low. In the last three weeks alone it’s appeared in a Jackie Robinson-inspired makeup, been sprinkled with sesame seeds and been reworked to commemorate HBCUs twice – and now, it’s appeared in an orange, white and black colourway that’s giving some serious ‘Shattered Backboard’ vibes.

It seems to be a popular narrative among sneaker media to call these the ‘Halloween,’ but we’re not down with that distinction. There are approximately zero Halloween-specific embellishments to be seen here, and the Swoosh prefer to be over-the-top with their ornamentation when it comes to holiday-themed sneakers. Instead, we see shades of Jordan Brand’s ever-popular Air Jordan 1 ‘Shattered Backboard’ line.

The orange, white and black colour scheme is nearly identical to the Air Jordan 1 ‘Shattered Backboard 2.0,’ only diverging on the colour of the laces and the collar detailing. A significant portion of the upper is built from high-gloss leather, which is similar to the construction of the Air Jordan 1 ‘Shattered Backboard 3.0.’ It’s fitting, as both the Dunk and the AJ 1 debuted in 1985!

No matter the inspiration, this low-cut Dunk will drop later this year in full family sizes. An official release date has yet to be announced but is sure to be revealed soon.
