Take an Official Look at the Bryant Giles x New Balance 2002R

New Balance’s 2002R has experienced a meteoric rise to the top over the past two years after being resurrected from the NB archive back in 2020. Originally, the NB2002 released as a luxury running shoe around the 2010s however due to its high RRP and relative obscurity, it quietly disappeared form the brand’s offering. Since it’s been back, there’s been a few changes hence the ‘R’ added to the end of the name reflecting the new build.

Collaborations have been the backbone of the resurgence, having relaunched with the help of Salehe Bembury. Next up to join NB’s collaborative roster is multi-disciplinary artist Bryant Giles who’s retouched the 2002R and mule version which he has affectionately named the ‘Artist’s Shoe’.

Giles has been wearing New Balances while painting for three years now and has been inspired by his own experiences for this 2002R. The hero pair is an olive green canvas-clad model which has had Giles’ original artwork embroidered throughout the upper. The second silhouette is a 2002R mule aka the ‘Artist’s Shoe’, which takes inspiration from what artists wear in their studio and is dressed in white canvas. Interestingly, the ’N’ logo is detachable via velcro and each pair will come housed in a special box with extra laces.
