Teddy Santis’ New Balance MADE in USA Line Presents the 990v2 in “Black”
If you love the 990 series from New Balance, the last few weeks have been an eventful stretch for you. Since the brand’s MADE in USA line started releasing its Teddy Santis-curated 990 styles, we’ve been given a wealth of premium takes on the 990v1, 990v2 and 990v3, and now the middle silhouette in that trio is getting another release with a 990v2 in ‘Black/True Camo’ set to touch down in the coming days.
One-half of the shoe’s name makes sense off the bat, while the other half is a bit more quizzical. The wealth of black suede explains the ‘Black’ part, but what, exactly ‘True Camo’ represents is up for interpretation: it could acknowledge the slight olive tint on the grey mesh base, or even salute the ABZORB-branded hit on the outsole. Regardless, there are also hits of dark grey, cream and tan that add to the look.
Clever material alterations can be seen as well, most notably how the tongue is built from a sturdy textile instead of leather or suede. Branding-wise, the midfoot’s N logo works with the ‘USA’ hits visible on the heel window, and a ZIP-code-equipped MADE in USA graphic on the insole rounds off the look.
Expect the MADE in USA New Balance 990v2 ‘Black/True Camo’ to touch down at retailers on July 7.
