MM6 Maison Margiela’s Resort SS23 Collection Celebrates Long, Balmy Nights
As the world emerges from lockdown and nightlife is restored, MM6 Maison Margiela encapsulates the long-awaited arrival of summer’s freedom and long, balmy nights. For Resort 2023, the lookbook is shot outside one of Paris’ most iconic nightclubs, La Java, to put into the context the eclectic group of revellers that Margiela envisions for its latest collection.

The pieces give an intriguing unconventional riff on clothes that included oversized, blazers and relaxed-fitting trousers. Geometric patterns are applied throughout the collection as seen on the circular elbow patches of blazers to give a more playful aesthetic to formal pieces. Tapered tailored trousers with a five-pocket treatment are paired with casual ribbed tanks and cotton jersey t-shirts to assure that comfort is still a standing motif. More experimental motifs see reimagined silhouettes of mismatched shirts with multiple armholes that drape over the body.
Informing the oversized tailored look are argyle vests in scarlet and black and intarsia sweaters that feature kaleidoscopic monochrome patterns. Asymmetrical pieces highlight the eccentricity of the collection as chewed hems are seen on the house’s iconic ribbed camionneur cardigan. The eclectic vibe is accentuated with the broderie anglaise-trimmed pillowcases fashioned into cropped tops and circular flat-pattern viscose dresses printed with imagery shot in the reflection of this season’s polished spherical jewelry. Cropped, bomber denim jackets and box-cut trench coats are a nod to classics and round out the collection.
