‘Squid Game’ Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk Teases the Plot for Season 2
Squid Game, the popular survival drama Netflix game series has an update.
Show creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased viewers with new insights on what’s to come for the show, sharing updates on the current writing process for the second season during an interview with Vanity Fair. He revealed that he currently has about three pages of initial ideas which he will use as the basis of the script for the upcoming season; Gi-hun, the imperfect protagonist, will inevitably return for season two, and the Front Man may possibly play a bigger role. “Humanity is going to be put to the test through those games once again,” said Hwang. “I want to ask the question, ‘Is true solidarity between humans possible?’”
The Korean Netflix show received positive feedback for its first season which aired last year, and became one of Netflix’s most popular shows. Earlier this year, the streamer renewed the show for a second season which is currently under pre-production, with its debut expected either in 2023 or 2024.
The end of the first season was bittersweet but, at the same time, stunned many viewers. It also left many questions unanswered about the future of the protagonist but left room for the possibility of a sequel, which Netflix was quick to act upon.
Season one actress HoYeon Jung also commented on the next season, claiming that she wants Gi-hun “to have a more happy life.” Although the details we currently have for Squid Game Season Two are relatively vague, based on Hwang’s comments, it is likely the second season will put viewers through an emotional rollercoaster just like the first.
