Neymar Jr. Says 2022 Qatar World Cup Will Be His Last
Neymar Jr. has officially revealed that he expects the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to be his final appearance for Brazil.
In a recent DAZN interview, the football player admitted that the sport has been a large mental undertaking and that he no longer knows if he has the capacity to continue. The Paris Saint-Germain forward said,
“I think it’s my last World Cup. I see it as my last because I don’t know if I have the strength of mind to deal with football anymore. So I’ll do everything to turn up well, do everything to win with my country, to realize my greatest dream since I was little. And I hope I can do it.”
Neymar, one of Brazil’s most formidable strikers, spearheaded the country’s efforts in bringing home the sixth crown in 2014 and 2018. Unfortunately, the team fell short in the semi-final and quarter-final stages respectively. Neymar is currently also facing a particularly tough start to the season with his PSG team. Despite bringing in former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi, Neymar has yet to make a goal since May 1.
Earlier this week Neymar also made the Ballon d’Or shortlist. If Neymar decides to play beyond the 2022 World Cup, he would consider playing for Brazil in the 2026 World Cup in U.S., Canada and Mexico.
