Netflix Delivers Trailer for Kanye West Documentary, ‘Jeen-Yuhs’
He’s one of the most enigmatic artists of our time, yet there’s been a shortage of films and documentaries exploring the life of Kanye West. Well, Netflix is about to rectify that with a docuseries on the rapper and designer spanning over two decades of footage and home videos.
A documentary 21 years in the making – Kanye West’s film is appropriately named JEEN-YUHS.
The first clip, which was unveiled during Netflix’s ‘Tudum‘ livestream features a young Ye rapping “Two Words” from The College Dropout alongside Mos Def.
According to source familiar with the project, the streaming giant acquired the Kanye project back in April for upwards of $30 million.
The multi-part series will be brought to life by Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, AKA Coodie & Chike, two frequent Kanye collaborators. The pair have been chronicling the artist/rapper/billionaire’s life and work since the early 2000s and directed two of West’s first music videos “Through the Wire” and “Jesus Walks.”
Coodie & Chike’s production company Creative Control is producing alongside TIME Studios.
JEEN-YUHS will reportedly cover everything from Ye’s beginnings, his career in music and fashion, his failed 2020 presidential bid, and the death of his mother, Donda West.
Kanye himself was not said to have creative control over the docuseries, surprisingly, but he did grant Coodie & Chike exclusive access to extensively document his life over the course of 21 years. Expect lots of behind-the-scene footage and memeable content.
Don’t get too excited just yet though: JEEN-YUHS won’t be hitting Netflix any time soon. All we know is that the documentary will release “sometime” in 2022.
