Liverpool’s 2021/22 Away Jersey Is a Tribute to the City
Liverpool’s 2021/22 away kit has just been unveiled by the club and its official outfitter, Nike. The jersey, which is heavily inspired by the club’s 1996/97 season, features a stone white base and complements the muted hue with red accents on the Swoosh and crest, as well as black detailing on the sponsor branding.
Beyond the shoutout to Liverpool’s 96/97 season, which oddly enough wasn’t the team’s most successful season as Liverpool finished 4th in the league and made the semi-finals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup, the stone white color is meant to represent The Three Graces. The Three Graces are a collection of buildings that comprise the city’s skyline.

In addition to the subtle nod to the city’s architecture, Nike has included details that pay respect to the 96 children, women, and men who lost their lives at Hillsborough. A 96-emblem encased by the eternal flames sits on the nape of the neck of the jersey.
While the vintage inspiration isn’t one that is connected to any title glory, the cream colorway is incredibly on-trend. One only has to look as far as Fear of God and YEEZY’s latest collections and footwear styles to see that muted, earthy tones are everywhere, so why not also on football kits?
The Liverpool 2021/22 away kit will be released to Nike members on July 8. It will go on sale to the wider public on July 15.
